Directory submission is a simple, yet time consuming process mainly due to the sheer volume of directories in which you need to submit your site to. I highly recommend outsourcing this task if you have the funds to do so. There are several companies online that will submit your site to directories cheaply and quickly. A company which I have used in the past is Directory Submission Service. Their prices are quite reasonable and they send a detailed submission report when the job is complete.

If you'd like to submit to directories manually, there is free software available to help speed up the process. My favorite is Brad Callen's Directory Submitter. One of the benefits for using a directory submitter tool is not having to manually search through the search engine results to locate hundreds of directories.
